Debby Feldman, a longtime resident of Point Dume, died at 65 on Sept. 9, succumbing to breast cancer after an eight-year battle.

Fitness had long been the driving force of Feldman’s life. She earned a master’s degree in dance from UCLA and acquired certification under the ACSM. For years, Feldman provided instruction in dance, aerobics and seiorobics throughout the Malibu and Santa Monica communities. Her motto was “Keep Moving!”

Feldman is survived by her children, Geri, Joanne, Jeff and Stephanie and her grandchildren, Gage and Saxon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marty Feldman.

Feldman requested that memorials be given in the form of donations to any breast cancer research fund. Her colleagues at Malibu Fitness have created Team Dance Debby to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation 3-Day walk. Donations of any amount are tax deductible. One can give by going to www.the3day.org, clicking L.A., going to the donation option and looking for Team Dance Debby. One can also send a check payable to Breast Cancer 3-Day to Alecia Nelson, P.O. Box 6032, Malibu, CA 91301. On Sept. 26 from 2 to 4 p.m., there will be a dogwash fundraiser at Sherman’s. All of the proceeds will be donated to the Breast Cancer 3-Day.

A celebration of Feldman’s life took place on Sept. 9 at the Trinity Baptist Church in Santa Monica. Another one will take place at Malibu Fitness, located at 29575 Pacific Coast Highway, on Sept. 17.
