The Waves played a tough match against the Grizzlies Thursday night, but were unable to bring home the much-needed win. Pepperdine hustled to close the opponent’s 10-point lead within the last three-and-a-half minutes of the game, but were unable to hold on to the game in its last seconds.
Hailing from Nashville, senior guard Jonathan Allen gained a personal best and career-high of ten points during the close match, and senior guard Chris Reyes contributed an astounding 12 points and eight rebounds. Los Angeles native and senior guard Lamond Murray Jr. scored team highs of 14 points and 11 rebounds, helping him to pick up his first double-double of the season.
Although Pepperdine outshot the Grizzlies 52 percent to 43.4 percent overall, a series of crucial turnovers ultimately cost them the match. Montana closed out the non-conference-play with a 71-70 victory.
The Waves are set to play Gonzaga on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 6 p.m., followed by Portland on Saturday, Dec. 31, 5 p.m.
