The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is asking parents to take an online survey to help the administration understand the interaction between parents and schools in the district, with the goal of building a stronger support network.

“The survey is intended to help principals, teachers, PTA leaders and the district to better understand how frequently parents interact with their students’ schools, perceptions of school communications, and how welcome parents feel at their schools,” read a release by the district.

Surveys are available here and can be submitted by Sept. 11, with paper surveys available upon request.

Sample questions include how frequently parents visit the school’s website or talked to their child’s teacher about his/her academic progress, whether they feel welcome at the school or feel that they’re kept informed about their child’s behavior, and what programs they feel would improve the quality of their child’s education.

After Sept. 11, the district will publish data along with plans for how results will help shape future plans in the district.

“The success of our district depends on creating strong partnerships with families and community members,” Superintendent Sandra Lyon said in a release by the district. “With their support and involvement, we can continue to create an environment aimed at extraordinary achievement for all students.”
