The Joey Escobar School of Karate in Malibu had a successful trip in the recent Long Beach International Tournament. Under the guidance of sparring guru Ron Pohnel, the team received six first-place awards and one grand champion title.

Charlene Pohnel Po was named grand champion in sparring and earned first place in women’s sparring. Other first-place finishers included Isabel Thompson (9-year-old sparring), India Sposato (8-year-old sparring and kenpo sparring) and Karen Thompson (11-12-year-old sparring).
