Money aimed at maintenance projects in national parks … including the Santa Monica Mountains National recreation area … is being diverted to pay for president trumps Fourth of July military parade in Washington.
The Washington Post reports that entrance and recreation fees primarily intended to improve parks across the country are being diverted to the military parade in D-C.
Trump administration officials have consistently refused to say how much taxpayers will have to pay for the expanded celebration on the Mall this year, which the president has dubbed the “Salute to America.”
At east 2 point 5 million dollars are being transferred by the National Park Service away form maintenance projects across the nation.
The diverted park fees represent just a fraction of the extra costs the government faces as a result of the event, which will include displays of military hardware, flyovers by an array of jets including Air Force One, the deployment of tanks on the Mall and an extended pyrotechnics show.
The story was reported by the Washington Post.

Major league baseball stopped for one minute last night … before each game across the continent … to honor Tyler Skaggs.
The Los Angeles Angels pitcher … 27 years old … was found dead in a hotel room in Texas Sunday.
He is a Malibu story.
Tyler Skaggs was a Los Angeles native … he attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Lincoln Middle School and was a 2009 graduate of Samohi.
His his mother … Debbie … a longtime and widely respected softball coach — and married this past New Year’s Eve at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu.
Tyler Skaggs played in that celebrity softball game last winter … the one that raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for fire victims in Malibu and over the hill.
Yahoo Sports reports that Skaggs did his winter practice … throwing pitches … at Pepperdine.
Skaggs and his wife, the former Carli Miles, lived in Santa Monica.
The L-A Angels hung Skaggs’s No. 45 jersey in their dugout last night at the stadium near Dallas.
The Rangers’ grounds crew painted a large, red “45” into the back of the pitcher’s mound. Rangers hitters came to the plate without their typical “walk-up” music on the public address system — instead conducting their own individual moments of silence.
No cause of death.
No funeral services.
Baseball is on the All Star break … with the Angels once again confronting the death of a player …
