The City of Malibu is calling for local artists to submit original designs for art on four storm drain inlets located around Malibu.
The deadline for artists to submit plans is Thursday, Feb. 27, and submissions will be collected through the project’s website.
The artist whose design is selected will be paid $3,200 to complete the art on all four storm drain catch basins; this grant covers the supplies, installation, any needed touch-ups for two years and the artwork itself.
According to The City of Malibu website, the proposal is designed to inspire dialogue about the connection between Malibu’s gutters and storm drains and the ocean into which they feed, as well as beautify the community. By commissioning a local artist to paint the storm drains, the city hopes to highlight both the art community in Malibu and the connection between Malibu and the ocean.
