All good citizens! Sign the petition for a December referendum election in which registered citizens can vote on the California Coastal Commission’s Local Coastal Plan for Malibu. Why? Our people have fought for freedom and died for freedom since 1776. They have demanded the right to exercise their freedom, and freedom has been guaranteed ours by a carefully crafted system of checks and balances. We face a freedom issue.
The California Legislature with AB988 gave away our local right to craft our own Local Coastal Commission Plan. They gave that right to the California Coastal Commission. The governor signed the bill.
In essence they gave away our local voice and our participation, which they had no right to do. We have been presented with a plan in which the local has had no voice. The present plan was created by, judged by and passed by a commission that answers to no one. It is thus that tyranny begins.
Malibu must have a voice in its destiny. Since the City Council was not allowed the role of saying yes or nay to this document, it is up to the people of Malibu to demand the role of validation by vote in a referendum.
The petition you sign is a request for that referendum in December, which will assure that our local voice is heard. How you vote in December is up to you. But exercise your citizen rights now by signing the petition for a referendum.
