Sally McLaren Evans, of Sea Lane Drive in Malibu, died June 25 of cancer. She was 73 years old.

Born in Pasadena in 1936 to John McLaren of Chicago and Margaret Huntington of San Marino, Evans was a fourth generation San Marino resident and attended middle and high school at Polytechnic and Westridge. She attended college at Smith and UC Berkeley, from which she graduated in 1957.

After college, Evans worked for the U.S. government in post-war Tokyo for several years. She then returned to California in 1965, where she met and married Malibu resident Sanford (Sandy) Evans Jr., a physicist working in the U.S. Space Program.

The couple had three children who attended Malibu and Santa Monica schools.

Evans is survived by her husband; daughters Lisa Stefke of Berkeley and Carol Pew of Washington, DC; son Sanford Evans III (Ford) of Corvallis, Ore.; grandchildren Mia Evans, Ben Pew and Jack Pew; sister Ann Gregory of Menlo Park; brother John McLaren of Portland, Ore.; and step children Ann Bradley Evans and Williams Parke Evans.

Evans has requested that donators make contributions to their chosen areas of cancer research.
