The truth on-line

My friend Sharon Barovsky suggests that I may have erred in my description of John Sibert’s votes. I stated that John endorsed the Santa Monica Mountain Conservancy’s plan for overnight camping in our parks, increasing the risk of fire in Malibu. He voted to approve the La Paz development project even though county water officials testified that Malibu would not have adequate water if hit by a major fire.

Who is correct?

If you are willing to invest five minutes, the miracle of Internet technology makes it easy for you to get the facts and determine the truth for yourself. Our local newspaper (www.malibutimes.com) maintains an online archive of past articles that you can get to in seconds. Type in the above domain, go to the archive section, select the dates and look up these news articles.

Malibu Times, Oct. 17, 2007: Malibu Planning Commission Endorses Mountain Conservancy Park Plan.

Malibu Times, Feb. 27, 2008: County Fire Officials Call La Paz Project a Fire Risk

When you read the Feb., 27 article in the Malibu Times, please note the comment by Planning Chair Regan Scharr who admonished John Sibert for his vote approving the La Paz development with the following statement: “You guys are nuts for approving this!” That describes it better than I ever could. As the above headlines suggest, and the copy confirms, my description of John’s voting record is accurate.

So now it is up to you. The truth is at your fingertips and with it will come an informed vote on April 8. And, if I may borrow a phrase from Sharon, you need to vote the truth in this election. And the truth is that Jefferson Wagner, Susan Tellem and Pamela Ulich are the best candidates for the job.
