As predicted, the flood of falsehoods and distortions by Malibu CAN to defeat Ken Kearsley and Jeff Jennings continues. This time they are contained in a citywide mailing from Ozzie Silna, who for all intents and purposes, is the voice and chief supporter of Malibu CAN. Silna claims: Jennings and Kearsley (they) threw out the Malibu Citizen’s Local Coastal Plan because it was too tough on developers. Silna’s source: L.A. Superior Court Finding A.B. 988. False: I have reviewed all pertinent documents and discovered no such findings or conclusions.
Silna claims: They are responsible for the inability of Malibu residents to obtain building permits. False. The City was apparently having successful negotiations with the Coastal Commission for an agreement ending the stalemate on issuance of building permits. One of Silna’s and Malibu CAN’s candidates, Jay Liebig, (and/or an entity in which he was involved) intervened in the proceedings to block any such agreements. Significantly, Silna’s other candidates endorsed Liebig.
Silna Claims: They wasted millions of tax dollars on frivolous lawsuits. “Silna’s Source: City Clerk. I am deeply saddened and repulsed by Silna’s attribution of this baseless “claim” to the City Clerk as his source. Has Silna considered the hurt and pain that such a baseless claim has inflicted on the feelings and the damage to the reputation of an innocent person who has been a dedicated and non-political member of the city staff?
All Silna’s candidates should publicly disavow and disclaim Silna’s reference to the City Clerk. Failure to do so is sufficient reason alone to warrant a negative vote against any silent candidate. Regrettably, frivolous lawsuits are filed against the city by persons seeking either personal gratification or monetary “nuisance” settlements. On three occasions, Liebig (or an entity in which he was involved) has filed actions against the City without achieving any results other than as he so delicately is reported to have put it, the opportunity “to kick butt.” City defense costs exceeded $163,000.
Please vote for the only independent candidates, Jennings, Kearsley and Kulich.
