The high school winter playoffs kicked off last week, and every Malibu High School winter sport earned a spot in the postseason.

The girls water polo team, after earning the Tri-Valley League title with a perfect 10-0 league record, surpassed Westminster High School in the opening round of playoffs, 16-5. In the second round, the Sharks defeated Charter Oak High, 8-3.

The girls returned to action to face Walnut High School on Wednesday after this paper went to print.

The girl’s soccer team earned the Frontier League title with an undefeated 9-0-1 record before trampling Yucca Valley in their first playoff game, 6-0. The Sharks faced Mammoth on Wednesday after this paper went to print.

The boy’s soccer team defeated Hoover in the first round, 2-1, before losing to Estancia, 2-1.

The boy’s basketball team stayed close in the first half of their game, before losing to Crespi, 73-40, in the opening round.

The Sharks’ three league wins and postseason bid were a vast improvement from last season’s 0-10 record in league.

The girls basketball team squeezed out a victory in the first round over Costa Mesa, 58-57, before losing to powerhouse St. Joseph in the second round, 94-14.
