Fifth-grade students at Point Dume Marine Science Elementary School, supervised by principal Chi Kim, built their own raised beds for the school’s organic gardens. The students learned tongue and groove techniques to build the ADA-compliant garden planters, which they filled with soil in preparation for fall planting. This year, the winter greens that will be served in the lunch room will truly be the product of students’ efforts, from planter to table. Community members are invited to tour the gardens to see how ecological stewardship is integrated into the science curriculum at PDMSS.
