There are many good reasons to vote in the November election, and Kathy Wisnicki is one of them. Kathy is running for a seat on our Santa Monica-Malibu School Board, and we need her expertise, her work ethic, and her balanced approach to making decisions on behalf of our students. She has been a parent, an SMMUSD Financial Oversight Committee member, and a Malibu Times Dolphin Award recipient and has a Ph. D. in Educational Research! We are so fortunate to have a candidate with these qualifications, and more, willing to devote her energies to the strong public education system that benefits every resident in this community.
Kathy will need every available vote in Malibu—and many in Santa Monica, too—to be elected. Malibu representation on the board is not guaranteed. Of the four candidates running for three open seats, Kathy is the only one that lives in Malibu. This makes it imperative that she be elected, not only for the sake of Malibu residents, but also as a valuable resource for all Board deliberations. Regardless of whether the Malibu schools eventually form their own district, they will be part of the SMMUSD for several more years, so it is very much in our interest—maybe now more than ever—to have the representation of someone that knows Malibu and our schools.
