Malibu artist Lindsay Carron this week painted a storm drain at Trancas Canyon Park, the first of four set to be painted for the city’s Keep it Clean campaign.
The campaign’s goal is to protect the Area of Special Biological Significance located in Malibu, which is 24 miles long. Connecting to the ocean with the ability to transport pollutants to the beach, these painted storm drains are designed to remind citizens to protect ocean wildlife and clean water.
Selected from 18 applicants, Carron’s designs each included a rain garden. The artist grew up in Wisconsin and graduated from Pepperdine University in 2011.
Over the next two weeks, the final three storm drains will be painted and a ribbon-cutting ceremony displaying the drains is scheduled at Trancas Canyon Park on Thurs., April 17, at 10 a.m.Â
