Vintage Grocers had a change in leadership in August with the departure of Manager Eric Fuchser and his wife, volunteer Linda Fuchser, along with other longtime employees Jack Nassie and Mary Carbionniere.

A spokesperson for Vintage Grocers, owned by Walmart heiress Paige Laurie, was not able to provide information by the time The Malibu Times went to print on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

A press release shared with The Malibu Times names Daniel Barth as the store’s new executive director, and adds: “Eric and Jack have been with Vintage from the beginning and we wish them both well as they move on to their next opportunities.”

Eric Fuchser said he was not able to provide details regarding the end of his work at Vintage Grocers on Aug. 17, due to a confidentiality agreement, but added he hopes the Western Malibu grocery store lives up to the high standards he expects.

The Fuchsers also described the outpouring of support they have received from community members, two of whom submitted letters to the editor of The Malibu Times this week. Eric Fuchser said he is already considering opening a new, independent grocery store in town.

“We’ll get through this—the community has nothing but blessed my family and myself,” Eric said. “And we hope to be back up there again with hopefully a new market. We’ve got a lot of people cheering us on.”

Linda Fuchser said her annual charity event, an Angioma Alliance Anywhere Walk, was still scheduled to take place on Saturday, Oct. 21, at Zuma Beach, though Vintage Grocers would no longer be involved.

“We were all just family,” Linda said. “I now feel like a divorcee.”

Last year, Vintage Grocers opened a new location at the Promenade in Westlake Village. The store is also in the process of preparing to open a third Vintage Grocers nearby in Pacific Palisades.
