A large brushfire caused evacuation of the Magic Mountain theme park … 30 miles northeast of Malibu … last weekend. 40 acres … it’s out. And up north … about 23 thousand households had their electricity intentionally shut off because of hear and high winds in the Napa area … and further north near Chico. Fire season has begun. A heavy traffic jam this morning on Heathercliff at Dume Drive.
This may be a taste of things to come.
Lots of construction trucks … and lots of parents trying to get down to the Point Dume school … the soon to be called Malibu Elementary School.
With the arrival of nearly 300 new kids this fall … traffic jams on the point are a major concern.
The Santa Monica-Malibu school district is trying to drum up interest in a school bus to go from Malibu West and Trancas … through malibu Park … over to the school on Point Dume.
Summer is here … the real traffic impact comes this fall.

Try 53 hundred dollars a year.
A 20-year commitment.
That’s how much each property will have to pay this year along a small stretch of P C H … to put their power lines underground.
Back in 2007 … the Carbon Beach homeowners voted 21 to 8 to bury their power lines.
Every year … the city council has to approve the tax bill.
It’s been dropping over the years … as the city has re-financed the 5 million dollar project and received lower interest rates.

Plans are lining up for this Saturday’s emergency preparedness fair … at Trancas Country Market.
Fire preparedness and civilian fire prevention equipment vendors will be there.
So will members of the Corral Canyon Fire Safety Alliance … who can tell you how they got trained … bought a fire truck .. and are now classified as on call firefighters.
The Los Angeles County Fire and Sheriff’s Departments will be there.
