Children and their families joined park rangers for a “Tiny Tot Trek” at Rocky Oaks in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreational Area Saturday morning. The educational hike taught a variety of useful outdoor tips, such as how to identify plants and animals to avoid, like snakes and poison oak. Young participants also learned that trees provide shade from the sun and the importance of carrying water while outside. The children also used binoculars and magnified glasses, listened to stories, sang songs and enjoyed snacks in the great outdoors.
