[Update, 5:45 p.m.] Terry Adamson has been taken off a respirator and is scheduled to undergo back surgery, her brother-in-law Terry London told The Malibu Times.

Terry’s daughter Lauren Adamson, 24, just underwent back surgery and is “doing well,” according to London. Her sister Megan, 20, has been moved from the intensive care unit.

“Grant [Adamson’s] sister and mother are now in Switzerland,” London said in an email. “Terry’s sister is also in Switzerland along with other family members.”

Terry, Megan and Lauren Adamson were seriously injured in a hot air balloon accident in Switzerland on Tuesday. Grant Adamson, Terry’s husband and the girls’ father, was killed in the crash.

[Original post] Terry Adamson is apparently awake and able to communicate, as she asked a close friend to call Pepperdine School of Law and make sure another professor would cover her classes this fall, Professor Harry Caldwell told The Malibu Times on Thursday.

Adamson was seriously injured in a hot air balloon crash in Switzerland on Tuesday. Her husband Grant Adamson was killed in the crash and their daughters, Lauren and Megan, were also injured.

Caldwell said Terry Adamson’s close friend Suzelle Smith is at the Swiss hospital where Terry is located. Smith is the godmother of Lauren and Megan, Caldwell said, and is a neighbor to the Adamsons in Serra Retreat.

“Terry was able to talk with Suzelle, and one of the things that was discussed was ‘Please make sure that Harry covers my classes,’ so that was a good sign,” Caldwell said.

Caldwell and Terry Adamson have written many books and taught several classes together at Pepperdine. Adamson is a distinguished jurist in residence at the law school, where she has taught for nearly 20 years.

Several friends at a prayer service on Thursday said Terry Adamson had yet to undergo surgery for unspecified injuries, with doctors waiting to get her fully stabilized.

Lauren and Megan underwent successful surgeries earlier this week and are expected to be OK.Â
