The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education is now taking applications for openings on its district advisory committees (DACs).

Members of the public are encouraged to apply for the following committees: Early Child Care and Development, Health and Safety, Intercultural Equity and Excellence, Special Education, and Visual and Performing Arts.

Completed applications are due to the district office by August 15.

Membership terms range from one to four years, and the Board of Education is scheduled to make appointments to fill committee vacancies during the summer.

District advisory committees aim to improve understanding and information for officials to identify education needs and desires.

Some expectations for the position are:

1. Keep learning and achievement for all students as the primary focus.

2. Value, support and advocate for public education.

3. Recognize and respect differences of perspective and style on the committee and among staff, students, parents and the community

4. Conduct him/herself in a dignified and professional manner, treating everyone with civility and respect.
