A mountain lion, identified as P-64, was found dead weeks after the Woolsey Fire. The news came from the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

In a post on social media, SMMNRA said, “His [P-64] cause of death is not known, but his paws were visibly burned.”

The four-year-old male mountain lion, also known as “Culvert Cat,” was found active in the days following the Woolsey Fire. He was last tracked by scientists on Nov. 28. The next location, found on Dec. 3, was close to where P-64’s body was discovered.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is set to conduct a necropsy on the body.
