Homecoming festivities were a hit, but the same couldn’t be said for the Malibu High football team, which suffered a 22-7 loss to Ribet Academy on Friday night.
Before a boisterous crowd, Malibu (0-4) took an early 7-0 lead on its first possession of the game. The Sharks drove 62 yards in 10 plays, capped off by a 9-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Dylan LuBell to senior wide receiver Dylan Miller.
Malibu maintained its lead throughout the first half as the Sharks’ defense shut down any offensive progress by the Fighting Frogs. Unfortunately, the second half was quite the opposite, as Ribet Academy dominated the line of scrimmage and ran at will.
Sophomore Alec Stevenson played an inspired game at linebacker leading the Sharks in tackles, while junior Justin Baldinger racked up three interceptions. Baldinger also rushed for 57 yards.
But, the Sharks could only muster up 13 yards of total offense in the second half.Â
Meanwhile, Ribet Academy methodically pounded the ball on the ground, daring MHS to stop its resurgence. The Fighting Frogs scored two touchdowns in the third quarter and one in the fourth to take control of the contest.
Next up, Frontier League Action begins next Friday as Malibu hosts Santa Clara at 6:30 p.m.
