The author of the article two weeks ago on Juan Cabrillo gave a lot of information as to why the school isn’t raising more funds and how the school’s ability to fundraise is being hindered by its diversity. I work directly with the families whose children are English learners and I know how much they appreciate the opportunity that their children have to learn in a safe environment. I think that our schools in Malibu are wonderful because of the diversity of our families and all that they contribute to the school environment. Money isn’t the only thing that defines the strength of a good school. As one who has served on PTA boards in this community, I know that it’s the hard work, love and pride that we have in our schools that make them special. The parents that I work with have great respect and pride in their children’s school and they contribute to the best of their ability, whether by donating money, spending their one day off weeding and cleaning the school’s gardens, or donating and cooking the delicious food at our annual fundraiser. I believe that we are one community with a common goal-to do the best that we can for our children-and that we will all benefit if we focus on all that we are, together.
