I saw first-hand the effect of a carefree day for the foster children who attended Safety Harbor Kids beach event at La Costa Beach Club. Even the “coolest” of the teenagers couldn’t resist running to the water’s edge when a seal was sighted a few feet away, a common sight to many of us, but not to the kids that don’t have the access that we take for granted. The state is the parent to these children, but there’s no parent on weekends to take them places and watch them grow and direct them towards further education and success. I hope more locals will sign up to help out or sponsor a child through SHK and provide many more happy days like that Saturday!
