Planners at the Santa Monica Malibu School District have released details about the proposal to expand Point Dume Marine Sciences Elementary School …. to take in students from Cabrillo Elementary.

Waves were supposed to be still big this morning … but they are not.
Mo In The Morning says the waves a 3 to 5 feet and inconsistent at Surfrider beach this morning.
But that’s above normal … and surf will remain elevated through the day.

Rain is still on the way to Malibu … but the approaching storm has slowed down a scosh.
We still have a chance rain tomorrow night, but the chance of precipitation is highest Wednesday afternoon and evening.
70 percent chance.
Malibu may get up to a half inch or so of rain.
Close to an inch could fall in mountain areas… and those are both down from earlier predictions.
A low-pressure system moving into the region from the north Pacific Ocean is bringing the wet weather.
With it comes a slight chance of thunderstorms … tomorrow afternoon.

Serious crimes in Malibu are up 2 point 1 percent this year … over the rate from first 8 months of last year.
The Los Angeles County sheriffs Department scratch August crime statistics are out.
An increase in the number of burglaries out of automobiles appears to be responsible for the uptick.
And remmeber … a small numerouc change in a small set of data can result in exaggerated statistical changes.
Best to look at raw data:
47 cars crashed in August of this year in Malibu.
15 people hurt badly.
Unsafe speed blamed in more than half of those crashes.
During the entire month of August … 1 bicyclist and 1 pedestrian were involved in crashes … an astonishing low figure given the huge beach crowds and heavy traffic that we experienced.
