Malibu drivers may experience some delays this month on their way to work. One lane of three portions of Pacific Coast Highway is being closed beginning this week from the mid-morning hours through the afternoon on weekdays during December.

One southbound lane on Pacific Coast Highway between Las Flores Canyon Road and Big Rock is being closed from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. so Verizon Wireless can replace a telephone pole. Utility construction by Southern California Edison is requiring a northbound lane of the highway between Carbon Canyon Road and Sweetwater Mesa Road to be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Another utility construction project means a northbound lane of the highway between the northbound and southbound portions of Rambla Vista Road is being closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. No one from Edison knew what the utility construction projects were for. The Malibu office manager was not in the office Tuesday for comment.

Ken Simon, a public affairs official for the California Department of Transportation, said the closures might not take place every weekday during the month, although the permits allow for the closures during those time periods. He said at least one lane will be open during the hours, and Verizon and Edison are responsible for directing traffic.
