Authorities are working to prevent further spreading of jet fuel after a military plane crashed Wednesday at Point Mugu, Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC), according to a NBVC press release. According to the press release, an Omega 707 aircraft tanker plane crashed at approximately 5:30 p.m. Wednesday into wetlands east of the runway. While authorities say they believe most of the fuel burned during the resulting fire from the crash, some Jet Petroleum 8, or JP8, jet fuel entered the waters within the wetlands. A coordinated response was launched Thursday by NBVC, the United States Coast Guard and the California Department of Fish & Game to prevent the fuel from migrating further into the Point Mugu Lagoon.
