In response to “Malibu General Fund Grants Reviewed by City Council” published on June 7.

The story makes an error of two decimal places (100x).

Your story makes an error of a factor of 100x in characterizing the size of the grants in the City of Malibu general fund budget. You say that the grant allocations are “about .005 percent of the money,” meaning of the budget. In writing this, you make a common but still objectionable mistake. You forget that percent means 1/100. The actual correct statement is that the grant allocations amount to 0.5 percent of the budget.
