A tree-trimmer was killed Monday morning in Malibu after touching live electrical wire, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It was initially reported that he had cut through live wires.Â
The unidentified male Hispanic was 50 years old and lived in the San Fernando Valley, said Sgt. Phil Brooks of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.Â
Authorities received a call at 10:23 a.m. reporting an unconscious man stuck in a tree 25 feet above the ground in the 24800 block of Pacific Coast Highway, west of John Tyler Drive. After being lowered, the man was pronounced dead at the scene by the LA County Fire Department, according to Brooks.Â
Brooks said the death was ruled accidental and the department will not conduct a criminal investigation. The man’s identity had not been released as of Tuesday pending next of kin notification, according to the coroner’s office. He was from El Salvador and not known to have family in the United States.Â
