This poem was written in response to a school assignment "What is life"? Thomas is in 8th grade at Malibu High Middle School.

Life is not about what other people say it is about

Life is not about money, grades, or how popular you are

Life is not about stereotyping strangers

Life is not about racism, or disliking someone for the way they look

Life is not about good or bad

Life is not about war, or hate crimes

It's not about being a prisoner

Life is not about doing something just because someone else does

Life is not about saying everything you think life isn't about in a poem

Life just isn't like that

But life is about what you say it's about

It's about what you love and live to do

Life is about having an open mind

Life is about total freedom

It's about music, love and peace

Life is about anticonformity

Life is about honesty

It is about creativity

Life is about liberty

It's about overcoming other people's ignorance

And most of all life is about being you
