Locals interested in updates on Malibu High School campus construction can now subscribe to the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District’s newsletter, Building Futures.

The news will come directly from the Facilities Improvement Projects team, according to an email shared by the school district.

The first newsletter, shared on June 5, said the Malibu Campus Plan will most likely come before the SMMUSD Board of Education for approval in the fall.

Building E, also known as the middle school building, will open to students by the school’s Get Your Stuff Day on August 13.

“The new two-story building will have 12 classrooms, three sets of boys and girls restrooms each, an elevator tower, stairs and associated improvements,” the newsletter detailed.

In looking to the next rainy season, the district said it “will have permits to put concrete barriers on Clover Heights” to redirect any mudflow. The worry stems from this year’s rain events, which impacted a number of fields on the MHS campus due to severe mudflow. Parents expressed concerns about protecting the campus from inclement weather in front of the school board earlier this year.

The first edition of the Building Futures newsletter is available at fip.smmusd.org/pdf/FIP-MHS2019.pdf or by visiting www.smmusd.org.
