Both ends of  of the Santa Monica Airport runway will be chopped off and replaced with grass this summer.

And that means the airport will at times this summer be closed to aircraft.

And that in turn means far fewer airplanes will be flying along the Malibu coast this summer … as the Santa Monica airport is a major host to general aviation traffic that flies over the Malibu.

The Santa Monica Daily Press reports that pavement will be chopped up and carted off from ends sides of the runway starting June 16th . and lasting all summer.

The runway was shortened from 5 thousand feet to 35 hundred 35 hundred feet a year ago … using paint.

This is part of the City of Santa Monica’s plans to close the airport by 2028.

Members of the Santa Monica Airport association continue to campaign against the airport closing.

The Santa Monica daily press reports the pilots call the $3.5 million runway shortening project a waste of City funds.

Malibu may get its 6 million dollars from FEMA after all …

The U S House of Representatives yesterday passed a disaster relief bill that includes billions in aid for California wildfire victims.

It was a 354-58 vote.

Three times … tea party Republicans had blocked the bill because it includes money for Puerto Rico,

President Donald Trump has said he’ll support the $19 billion package.

Yesterday he tweeted that the “House just passed the 19.1 Billion Dollar Disaster Aid Bill. “

“Great, now we will get it done in the Senate!”

The bill has already passed the Senate and it is now on his desk … it needs only his signature.

That tweet was later deleted.

Malibu City Hall is having its annual blood drive on Thursday.

The Red Cross and the city have $5 Amazon e-gift cards … which will be emailed out to all donors about 30 day after our drive.

It really does not hurt … and they have free cookies.

The blood drive is Thursday … you can make a reservation by calling the city at 310 456-2489.
