Emily Bloomfield and Oscar de la Torre were elected to second terms on the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education last night. The two were the top vote-getters of the election, with Bloomfield receiving 16,001 votes and de la Torre earning 14,081. Activists Kelly McMahon Pye (13,983 votes) and Barry Snell (12,741 votes) were elected to their first terms on the board. Board member Shane McLoud, who was the only candidate to have the support of the entire Malibu City Council, lost in his re-election bid. He finished fifth with 9,633 votes.

Nancy Greenstein, the only incumbent running for the Santa Monica College Board of Trustees, was the top vote-getter in that race, receiving 16,201 votes. The others elected to the board were Louise Jaffe (15,560 votes), David Finkel (13,739) and Andrew Walzer (12,765). Former SMC administrator Thomas Donner, a Sunset Mesa resident who was the only candidate in that race to receive support from all the Malibu City Council members, finished a distant fifth with 9,767 votes.

Measure BB, the $268 SMMUSD facilities improvement bond measure, easily passed with 67.11 percent of the voters casting ballots in favor of the measure. It needed 55 percent for passage.
