Malibu surfer catches spot on team

Malibu surfer Frankie Harrer won one of two spots on a new surf team that features pros like Kelly Slater through an online poll. The poll, conducted by Surfline, opened about a month ago, and allowed the public to vote on which young surfers could be chosen for the inaugural Daphne’s surf team. Voting closed with Harrer receiving 2,282 votes, earning her a spot on the surf team. She will join the new team with Slater, Kulia Doherty, Meah Collins, Tia Blanco and other professional surfers, along with contest winner Colt Ward of San Clemente. As a winner of the contest, Harrer will take part in team meetings and support community groups in addition to competing in surfing events.

Harrer is in eighth grade and attends the California Virtual Academy Middle School.

The Malibu Times is the first newspaper in Malibu, serving the community since 1946.
