paved over

This is in response to Mr. Major’s attack on me in your paper. It might surprise him that I have been a resident for many decades in these Santa Monica Mountains. I have seen Kanan Road put through to PCH, lights installed along the road, and have enjoyed riding horses, as have many others in the Malibu area. The fire roads are not private roads. Politicians and conservationists have always maintained that the fire roads were accessible to hikers and horseback riders, not motorized vehicles. With the building boom in these mountains, the trails or access to the trails are being cut off by newcomers to the area. This is not just my complaint. I’m perhaps more vocal because of the procedures, meetings, interviews, etc. that I endured to have an acceptable recreational facility, and happened to despise the broken promises of politicians.

I love beautiful architecture and chose the Los Angeles area to reside in because of the varied styles. Mansionizations do not belong in the mountains, no matter how beautiful they are. These mountains are supposed to be protected, and they are being desecrated.

I do respect property rights, but I also respect neighbors coming to agreements about the continuity of the Malibu lifestyle. When everything is paved over, you have lost a valuable part of our heritage.
