Letter: In favor of ordinance

I was unable to attend the City Council meeting regarding the “Commercial Diversification and Local Community Serving Business” Ordinance but I would like to express my concern as to how important this ordinance is to the Malibu community!

I have been involved with the grassroots movement that started almost two years ago leading up to bringing this new ordinance to the table. The passage of this ordinance would be a HUGE victory for the citizens of Malibu, as I believe the residents of Malibu for many years have fought to keep Malibu both rural and unique. Malibu is not a suburban city; it is a unique, rural, small town and not a “big-box chain store” suburban city.

Please listen to the needs of the local citizens of Malibu! We are FOR this new ordinance! Protect local retailers and the needs of the Malibu citizenry.

I would also like to thank the previous City Council who helped save Trancas Canyon Nursery in 2011 by listening to the concerns of local community members. I believe this small business set an example of what COULD BE for all local retailers in the Malibu community—local retailers cannot only survive but thrive in the Malibu community, especially with the help of the Malibu City Council fighting for policies that favor local retail and local community serving businesses which will help preserve and further the unique Malibu community we’ve known and loved for many years.

Thank you for listening City Council and for all your hard work you do on behalf of the Malibu community.
