As a 2,000-acre brushfire, called the Springs fire, continues raging in the Camarillo area along the 101 freeway, State Parks officials have shut down Point Mugu State Park in Malibu as a precautionary measure and evacuated 100 people who were at the park.
All entry points on the coastal edge of the park in western Malibu and all inland entry point off of Las Posas Road are closed, District Supt. Craig Sap said.
“[The fire’s] not on State Parks property but we’re closing the park as a precautionary measure,” he said.Â
As of 10:40 a.m., winds were blowing 28 MPH southwest and humidity was reported at 80 percent in the Point Mugu area, according to the National Weather Service, which should help slow the Camarillo fire.
County officials have also evacuated Cal State Channel Islands university, neighborhoods in Newbury Park and Camarillo.Â
The fire sparked around 6:30 a.m. along the Conejo grade of the 101, near several residential areas. As of 12 p.m. it was 0 percent contained.
