After 26 years of business at Point Dume Village, Point Pizza Malibu is closing its doors at the end of the year.
Owner Hyesong Oh said she was unable to work out a lease agreement with Zan Marquis, the leaser of Point Dume Village. Marquis sent Oh an email on Monday of last week letting her know she could not continue her lease past December.
She said there was never a problem with paying rent, but that other factors and demands from Marquis forced her to make the decision.
“I couldn’t afford what he wanted,” Oh said. She said she could not elaborate specifically on what issues the two sides failed to resolve.
Point Pizza opened in 1986 and Oh took over the business in 1989.
Marquis is out of the country and could not be reached for comment.
News of Point Pizza’s closure comes on the heels of news last week that Guido’s Malibu will also close because of a lease dispute.
Correction: A prior version of this story misspelled Oh’s last name as “Ohio.”
