Malibu High’s varsity baseball team lost its first game of the 2013 season Friday against Carpinteria High School in a shutout, 4-0.

Riding a perfect 9-0 record into Carpinteria, the Sharks were looking to capitalize on the season’s blazing hot start and push their record to 10 wins. But Malibu (9-1, 4-1) had just three hits and stranded three runners against the Warriors (5-3, 4-0), who now sit alone atop the Frontier League standings. Malibu is in second place.

Carpinteria got two runs on the board in the second inning, and added two more in the fourth. Malibu freshman pitcher Ezra Allen pitched three innings, recorded one strikeout and gave up one earned run. Sophomore Andre Simoneau pitched four innings, striking out six and giving up two earned runs. Each pitcher walked three batters.

The Sharks look to get back into the swing of things Monday afternoon when they square off in the Lion’s Tournament against Escondido Charter High School at 3:30 p.m.
