I am very disappointed to read in your paper about the details of the planned development at Civic Center. Just what Malibu doesn’t need-more office space, more retail space! The office space will bring in more traffic, just the thing most of us are trying to prevent. As for the retail plans of a 16,000 square feet Long’s Drug Store-really! I believe the needs of Malibu are well provided for by the longtime presence of Super Care, and by Save-on and Dume Pharmacy. Do we really need a 16,000 square feet Long’s Drug Store? I think not! Granted, Malibu has become, in the nation’s eyes, the new capital of posh rehab facilities, but even with those in our midst, the last thing we need is another drugstore giant on our shores. Let’s all focus on the matter of the Civic Center Development and what is surely to become an overriding issue for our community and do all that we can to make sure it doesn’t spiral out of control. We will only have ourselves to blame if this development is allowed to run rampant.
