Tom “Tommy” Robbins died Saturday in an automobile accident on Cold Canyon Road. He was 38.
Robbins and his longtime partner, 40-year-old Shari Sousa, were on their way to a favorite stargazing spot near his home when they were both killed.
Robbins’ mother, Laura Robbins, and Sousa’s mother, Kathleen Wellman, were friends and business partners at the Nail Box, a popular manicuring salon in Malibu. Wellman died in 2003 from ALS complications.
Tom Robbins was an outdoor enthusiast since childhood. At an early age he discovered a passion for dirt biking with friends near his home and on trips to the desert. He also enjoyed waterskiing at Lake Havasu, where his family spent many vacations. Robins attended Las Virgenes public schools and graduated from Calabasas High School. He later worked in his grandfather’s business, Len Heating and Air Conditioning, before moving into a career in construction. Most recently, Robbins was developing a Web site to showcase his father’s fine custom woodwork. He also enjoyed working with his father on construction projects on the family home.
Robbins is survived by his parents, Laura and Ray; sister, Cherie Amick and her children, Kylie and Dustin; grandmother, Johnine Shreenan and many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
A viewing and memorial service will take place on Monday at the Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park and Mortuary, located at 5600 Lindero Canyon Road in Westlake Village. The service begins at 2 p.m. On the same day, friends and family are invited to a celebration of Robbins and Wellman’s life at the home of Ray and Laura Robbins.
