Firefighters hose a burned power line on Civic Center Way across from Winter Canyon Road on Oct. 21, 2007. Power was out in certain areas of the city for several days, and Charter Communications customers were without Internet, phone or TV service until Oct. 24.

Two weeks ago, Southern California Edison was working on the south end of the tunnel on Malibu Canyon Road, drilling holes and setting structure bases in Malibu Canyon. Residents were advised that there would possibly be road closures and that drill rigs, cement trucks, dump trucks, cranes, pick-up trucks and more would be seen on the road.

The replacement project takes place on a 3.5 mile length of road, between Harbor Vista Drive and Piuma Road. Digital traffic signs have been placed around the area to alert motorists.

The pole replacement was ordered following complaints after a pole was found to be the cause of the 2007 fire in the Malibu Civic Center. A total of 90 poles are being replaced along Malibu Canyon Road.
