The following letter was addressed to Alethea Guthrie.
I believe in what you are saying and feel that the bumper sticker I saw some years ago, “Fire them all and reelect none,” is more true today than 20 years ago. The question is how do we regain control of our elected and appointed officials?
Problem being that most concerned people work 60 to 80 hours a week to survive in today’s economy and don’t want to spend their spare time doing political work. We have trusted our elected officials to do a job and they in turn have let us down in favor of deal making and a name for passing some bill that feathers their political bed.
Since most of the elected officials are attorneys, I believe in what Shakespeare said over 400 years ago, “Kill the lawyers and we could have a chance.” This is a strong case for term limits and the abolition of lobbyists (or deal makers).
