Forty-four people were arrested for various offenses during a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint in Malibu on Friday night. The checkpoint took place on Pacific Coast Highway at Carbon Canyon Road from 7:30 p.m. until 3:30 a.m.
During the checkpoint, one person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of narcotics and one driver was arrested for having an open alcohol container in their vehicle. Twenty-five unlicensed drivers and six drivers with suspended licenses were arrested and sent to court. Additionally, two suspects were arrested on outstanding warrants and nine drivers were arrested for miscellaneous offenses.
A total of 2,376 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and 2,235 drivers were contacted.
The DUI checkpoint was conducted by officials from the Malibu/ Lost Hills Sheriff’ Station.
“The goal of the DUI/DL Checkpoint was removing impaired drivers and to bring awareness to the public of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol,” according to a statement from the sheriff’ station.
