The Malibu Cemetery looks like a certain thing … after a state agency mysteriously drops its opposition.

Trancas Country Market’s sewage system keeps conking out … they want to put in a new one …

And it will be bigger so a new restaurant can be put in.

And spill the wine … take that pearl. Or is it it girl???

You be the judge.

Good morning Malibu!

——

The Southern California Earthquake Center reports a magnitude 1.6 earthquake — with an epicenter at about Billionaire’s Beach — struck at 11:41:55 p.m. last night (Tuesday).

Too small to feel, says the sound sleeper.

Last minute legal objections to the proposed Malibu cemetery have been dropped … and it appears that the cemetery now has a green light to start construction.

The proposed Malibu Memorial Park is to be constructed at the corner of P C H at Malibu Canyon Road … across the road from Pepperdine’s broad green lawn.

The Mountain Resource Conservation Agency … M R C A  … had filed an appeal to the city council over the planning commission’s approval of the cemetery.

It’s objections centered on the loss of coastal recreational uses on the land … which had been zoned for coastal visitor uses.

The city planning commission added cemeteries to the list of allowed uses in a little-noticed move.

In its notice … the City planning department says M R C A has dropped its appeal.

And the city says the approval for the cemetery is a done deal … and cannot be appealed to the Coastal Commission.

We’ve asked the M R C A why it suddenly dropped the appeal … but have received no answer.

Trouble at Trancas.

The Trancas Country Market sewage treatment plant has been failing … repeatedly.

The owners have just been given permission for rebuilding the sewage plant … which serves the Vintage Market grocery store … Starbucks coffee outlet … Kristy’s restaurant and the few shops at the center.

And it’s not just rebuilding … the overall sewage capacity will be increased …. to allow an additional restaurant to be added at Trancas.

The city says that any any intensification of use at the shopping center … and any additional restaurant use … will require city planning commission approval.

The expanded sewage plant will be up behind the gas station at P C H at Trancas Canyon Road.

No parking will be lost.

The center’s latest lawyer … Ken Ehrlich … tells KBUU News that the existing buildings at Trancas will not be expanded … as a new restaurant will sit in some of the existing buildings that sit vacant 4 years after the center opened.

Don’t forget tonight … the City has rescheduled its Public Safety Town Hall meeting on fire season preparedness to tonight at 7 at Malibu City Hall.

The meeting was originally scheduled for last June 29.

It had to be cancelled when the Stokes Fire in Calabasas and the Topanga Fire in Topanga Canyon broke out the same day.

The city wants its residents to know about evacuations … mandatory and voluntary.

And roadblocks.

10 years ago … when the Canyon fire broke out … many residents were caught unsuspecting.

The fire was near the Civic Center …. but areas as far west as paradise Cove were evacuated.

And the roadblocks stayed up for three days …. at P C H at Kanan Dume … no on ecould go home.

The city wants residents to understand what is the plan … and why.

That’s tonight at 7 at Malibu City Hall.
