Local restaurateur Geraldine Gilliland opened her Malibu estate “Rancho Chiquita” to host a party to celebrate the success of the Beagle Freedom Project. The event honored the 222 dogs, 18 rabbits, 10 ponies, seven cats and four pigs who were saved from laboratory experiments. The event was attended by celebrities, supporters and freed laboratory beagles.
The gala — BeagleMania — was also a fundraiser, and featured red-carpet entrances, a Beatles tribute band, a silent auction, a hosted bar and a full Vegas dinner. Part of the evening’s entertainment was a speech by Beagle Freedom Project president Shannon Keith.
