The Sharks varsity football team clinched a playoff spot on Saturday with their win over Villanova Prep, 20-14. This is the first time since 2004 that the Sharks (2-2 in league play) have made it to the post-season, and only the third time in Malibu High School history that the football team has reached the playoffs.
Malibu had a rough start to the season, losing its first two games to Santa Clara and Bishop Diego, respectively, but showed character by bouncing back to overtake Villanova Prep and an upset over Fillmore a week earlier.
“I can’t describe the feeling, there’s just a lot of good emotions and happiness,” said Sharks’ line backer/tight end Hunter Parr on making it to the postseason.
Malibu is both 1-1 at home and on the road in league play, and returns home to face Animo Leadership in its final game of the season. Although the game does not count in the league standings, it marks both Homecoming and Senior Night for the Sharks. Malibu hopes to go into the playoffs with a win over the 1-7 Aztec Eagles, who are coming off a 59-19 loss.
Malibu’s junior varsity team lost in its final league game of the season, suffering a 40-20 defeat and losing quarterback Austin Scott
