Call for halt to development

As President of the Malibu Park Homeowners Association, I had a real learning experience last night at the Planning Commission meeting. I learned that Commissioner Leslie Moss uses his position to publicly respond to letters to the editor published in this newspaper. His insulting and bullying behavior towards Jo Ruggles-two time chair of the Commission and local resident for I don’t know how many years-was shocking. He dressed her down in public like she was dirt. Is this the proper use of the Commission? I don’t think so. Likewise, Mr. Moss’ behavior throughout the long session was as a cheerleader for an 18,000 square foot “home” slated for 5700 Sea View Drive in Malibu Park. I thought Commissioners were supposed to be impartial. Mr. Moss bristled and objected to every one of our reasonable requests to protect the historical trails, views, screen the huge home and protect the illusive neighborhood character.

* I guess Mr. Moss thinks the ongoing mansionizing of Malibu is a swell thing and should be allowed to proceed unchallenged. This will not happen as long as my neighbors vote to keep me as president. I may be tilting at windmills, but someone must raise a voice against the destruction of Malibu by developers. I am motivated by my love for rural Malibu, my wonderful neighbors and our fantastic board members Dawn Navarro Ericson, Pat Greenwood, Barbara Mackie Reich, Jay Griffith and past board president, Judy Hutchinson, who give countless hours working to serve our residents’ needs and to preserve and protect Malibu. I especially wish to thank Patt Healy for her huge contribution of personal time and effort in working with Malibu Park HOA’s challenge to this huge building project. I am humbled by their devotion to this community and I call on all residents of Malibu Park to renew their membership in our historical organization.(www.malibupark.org)
