The following was addressed to John Cross in response to the letter published Jan. 31 “(No) Tow-Away Zone.”

I have to say that you have a valid point expressing your concern about people parking in a no parking zone which happens to be a berth that allows for safe U turns. However, the way you went about it is completely out of line and disrespectful. Not just toward the people who were parked in the zone, but to all who were there attending the beach memorial.

I can understand expressing concern about the situation, but stating and then reiterating that you are “disgusted” and berating everyone, calling them selfish and then going as far as to call the sheriff to tow cars, given the circumstances? I wonder why they wouldn’t do anything for you? I guess you’re the only person who was disgusted that day.

If you have such a problem that you had to write the local paper, you could have at least done it tactfully and with respect. I don’t know how long you’ve lived here, but this is a small town with many people who have known each other all their lives, through generations. If you knew everyone there, would you have wanted to have their cars towed? What would you tell them if they went to a memorial and you had their cars towed? Would you feel like you did the right thing?

If you are genuinely concerned about something, I hope next time you can express yourself with respect for the community, especially for those who are attending a memorial.
