I respect school board members Craig Foster and Oscar de la Torre for not standing for the Pledge of Allegiance because they had the courage to publicly declare they are political ideologues first and educators second.
To them, a perfect course in civics would celebrate an uninformed, washed-up athlete like Colin Kaepernick and vilify great American statesmen like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. The United States is truly a remarkable nation. Where else can you find elected “leaders” like Foster and de la Torre proudly telling young people this country is rotten and that it is now patriotic to dishonor the flag?
