I want to congratulate the Santa Monica Community Wildfire Protection Plan for an extremely thorough program on all the ways we can protect our homes and neighborhoods from wildfires. This is the first time in my 37 years in Malibu that I have seen presenters actually ask the audience for suggestions to incorporate into the plan that is due out in April.Â
They are mapping all of our area to locate water sources such as pools and water tanks that could be used in emergencies. They are mapping escape routes. They are identifying safe holding areas. They have really good suggestions to put into effect for cutting back in a fire-safe way our overgrown landscapes. Their suggestions really made sense. They even included lawn furniture and welcome mats in their very thorough talk. Little things can save your home. They are urging us to establish neighborhood fire safety councils.
They are hosting talks for individual neighborhoods because of the mapping which shows every parcel in that particular neighborhood. They will hold 10 meetings before the Nov. 10 meeting for Decker Canyon and Encinal Canyon residents and then they will hold quite a few more for the areas that have not yet been included in January. The meetings are held at Malibu City Hall.
I urge people to check out their website for dates. SantaMonicaMountainsCWPP@gamil.com
It is worth your time.
